Robert Duane Nickols, P.E., RLS

Robert Duane Nickols, P.E., RLS, has over 44 years experience in land surveying, civil, construction and mechanical engineering. Additionally, he has over 28 years experience teaching civil engineering technology. He has an AS degree in Civil Engineering Technology and a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in Tennessee.

Mr. Nickols started working in construction at 16 years old. He worked mostly in surveying and worked for several surveying and engineering firms before graduating from college. After college he went to work for TVA on the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Project for about 9 years. After leaving TVA, Mr. Nickols accepted a position teaching at Chattanooga State Technical Community College. He has recently retired from his position as Associate Professor.

Mr. Nickols has taught Civil 3D by Autodesk, Visual Basic programming, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, soil, concrete and asphalt testing, land surveying, hydraulics and hydrology, construction planning and scheduling, construction estimating, construction contracts and specifications, steel design, reinforced concrete design, highway design, wastewater treatment and photogrammetry.

Mr. Nickols was nominated four times for outstanding teacher award and is a member of AISC. He proctored the NICET exam every three months for about 20 years. He developed and offered the first online course in the Engineering Technology Department.
