California PDH for Engineers

California does not currently have a continuing education requirement for engineers.

Although California does not have a traditional PDH requirement for engineers, all licensees are required to complete a Renewal Assessment as part of the license renewal process beginning July 1, 2026. This requirement is being implemented to reinforce licensee’s knowledge of state laws and the board’s rules and regulations. The Renewal Assessment is an online program that includes educational reading materials and related questions. The content is based on state law and the Board’s rules and regulations governing the practice of professional engineering, land surveying, or geology.

You are required to successfully complete the Renewal Assessment within 60 days of your license expiration date and failure to do so may result in disciplinary action, including potential enforcement measures. Timely completion is essential to remain in compliance.

There is no charge for this assessment, which must be completed once every two years on the Board’s website. If you have multiple licenses you will need to complete the appropriate module for your licenses only one time in a two–year period.
