Texas ASCE Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations
Credit: 3 PDH
Subject Matter Expert: G. D. "Tim" Atkinson, P.E. (Retired), PhD
In Texas ASCE Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations, you'll learn ...
- What level of investigation is appropriate
- What evaluation methodology should be used to evaluate the foundation
- What criteria should be used to evaluate the foundation
- What should be in an engineer's report about a foundation evaluation
Overview
The Texas Board of Professional Engineers (TBPE) rescinded Policy Advisory 09-98-A, Regarding Design, Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations. The TBPE now references The Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers and its two documents, Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations, and Recommended Practice for the Design of Residential Foundations.
In this course the student will study the Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations, which is available for download at no cost from the TxASCE web site.
As in the Guidelines, the course is largely non-technical. Technical details of residential foundation evaluation and repair are not discussed. As part of the course, the course author's commentary is provided in the link below.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Determine the appropriate level of investigation for a residential foundation evaluation.
- Select an appropriate methodology for evaluating the foundation.
- Apply appropriate criteria to evaluate the foundation.
- Identify the information that should be included in an engineer's foundation evaluation report.
- Assess remedial measures that should be considered.
- Specify the information that should be included in remedial plans.
- Determine the measurements that should be made after remediation.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
