In LNG Plant Components and Design Part 3: LNG Pretreatment Systems, you'll learn ...
- The importance of pretreatment systems in LNG plants and their role in gas conditioning for transportation and liquefaction.
- Common components found in natural gas feedstock and the necessity of removing specific contaminants before liquefaction.
- The different methods of gas purification, including absorption, adsorption, condensation, membrane permeation, and chemical conversion.
- The molecular sieve media and its role in removing unwanted contaminants from natural gas, along with the selection criteria based on gas composition and process requirements.
Overview
This is Part 3 of a 9-part course series covering LNG Plant Components and Design. All modules are designed to be stand alone and can be completed in any sequence desired.
The objective of this course is to familiarize chemical and mechanical engineers with the various methods for pretreatment of LNG feed stock prior to liquefaction. It provides a technical explanation of the most common processes used to dehydrate and purify the feedstock. It also includes a brief review of pertinent topics in organic chemistry as a background into understanding the specific components found in natural gas.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Six methods for pretreating natural gas feedstock
- The components that need to be removed from natural gas feedstock and why
- The most widely used types of molecular sieve media
- Common misconceptions about molecular sieves
- Inlet gas filter/separator purpose and design features
- The Rectisol process and amine systems for gas sweetening, including advantages, disadvantages, and potential issues.
- Challenges and considerations in designing and maintaining pretreatment systems, including the importance of proper regeneration, equipment selection, and operational factors.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
