This course describes a nuclear accident that occurred on March 11, 2011, at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The initiating event was an earthquake that created a tsunami. The facility was fatally damaged due to events subsequent to the tsunami. This course explains the type of nuclear reactors in use at Fukushima Daiichi and provides a timeline of how the event progressed and the efforts expended to safely shutdown the reactors. This event had a worldwide impact on the nuclear power industry and several important lessons were learned from this disaster.
