Overview
Seismic loads are the most critical dynamic loads that affect the behavior of structures. Most structures are designed based on ductility concepts, where the structure dissipates the seismic energy by inelastic deformations.
Since the proper determination of seismic load effect on each element in the structure is very significant, the code (ASCE7-22) set numerous limitations and rules to determine those load effects.
In this course, we will study the determination of Seismic Loads, from the determination of the Risk Category of the structure to the calculations of seismic base shear.
Also, the course covers the seismic importance factor, parameters of seismic ground motions, selection of SFRS, types of diaphragms, irregularities of structures, directions of seismic loading, seismic load combinations, seismic forces on diaphragms, and seismic drift.
