Seismic Isolated Structures: Concept, Review, Design & Worldwide Application
In Seismic Isolated Structures: Concept, Review, Design and Applications, you'll learn ...
- Basic concepts of seismic isolation
- Applications to new strategic and public buildings
- Differences between confined masonry and RC frame construction
- Retrofit of existing existing reinforced concrete, masonry and historic structures, including specific challenges for each case
Overview
The objective of this course is to assist professional engineers in understanding the behavior of seismic isolated structures (concrete, masonry, and cultural heritage buildings) and their applications in buildings worldwide.
The course presents a state-of-the-art study of seismic isolation and the most important applications. After a brief introduction on the basic concepts of seismic isolation, applications to new strategic and public buildings are shown, as well as to new residential buildings, pointing out the very good behavior shown by the seismically isolated structures during real seismic events.
Next, attention is focused on the retrofit of existing buildings, which represents the real challenge for the future. The most interesting applications on existing reinforced concrete, masonry and historic structures are shown, pointing out the specific challenges for each case.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe seismic isolation techniques.
- Identify the types of base isolation devices.
- Explain the importance of design codes in the seismic isolation of structures.
- Summarize applications of seismic isolation.
- Describe retrofit methods for reinforced concrete buildings.
- Explain seismic isolation in masonry buildings.
- Identify retrofit approaches for masonry and cultural heritage buildings.
- Describe methods for monitoring seismically isolated buildings.
- Identify the ten largest base-isolated buildings in the world.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
