Overview
International trading is the main stimulator of the world economy. Millions of goods are transported daily between countries in the Eastern and Western hemispheres.
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the supply chain of goods around the world. As the pandemic finally waned, the demand for goods returned to higher levels than before, causing massive pressure on the existing supply chain.
To transport these goods easily and reliably, a supply chain is needed from the country of export to the country of import. This supply chain mainly depends on the means of transportation and the units of handling.
Standard units of transportation are used to facilitate ease of transportation. One of the standard units is the offshore container, which is used to transport goods and equipment handled on open seas, to, from, or between fixed and/or floating installations and ships. The demand for offshore containers has increased to accommodate the great demand for transportation of goods.
This course covers the structural design of offshore containers based on the DNV-No.2.7-1-June 2013 standard (Det Norske Veritas) and European Standard EN 12079.
A comprehensive example is presented in the course, which incorporates all of the concepts and knowledge of the course to a real offshore container.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Strength of offshore containers.
- Load cases of offshore containers (forklift case, lifting set from 2 points, lifting set from 4 points).
- Design of pad eyes.
- Design of forklift pocket section for shear.
- Design of lifting set.
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 15 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
