In Electric Utility Service Entrance Equipment Sizing Calculations, you'll learn ...
- Techniques for determining the appropriate load values to consider for both residential and commercial loads
- How to determine load based on limited information
- How to calculate short-circuit currents for a service entrance
Overview
This course is designed to give practicing engineers and system designers relevant concepts for sizing electric utility service entrance equipment. The course explains numerous techniques for determining the appropriate load values to consider for both residential and commercial loads. The course is full of practical ideas on how to determine load based on limited information. There are sections on selecting transformers based on loading and voltage needs and for sizing service entrance conductors, and sections on calculating flicker limits and short-circuit currents. The information in this course can be used as a guideline to develop your own sizing criteria. Note: this course is directed toward the utility equipment and does not cover the customer-owned equipment requirements of the NEC.
Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained
This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
- How to estimate residential loads
- Typical load factors of different facilities
- How to size a transformer for both load and voltage
- How to calculate voltage drop in a conductor
- How to determine flicker limits
- How to calculate short-circuit currents for a service entrance
Certificate of Completion
You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
