Overview
Building Information Modeling, or BIM, is a process mostly used by architects, engineers, and builders, to design buildings and other infrastructure projects.
With BIM technology, an accurate virtual model of a building is digitally constructed. This model is an information-rich collection of data that can be accessed and collaborated on by different stakeholders—from the design team to contractors, construction engineers, and owners. The implementation of BIM can save time and money, provide realistic models at every step of a project’s lifecycle, etc. It helps architects, engineers, and constructors visualize what is to be built in a simulated environment to identify any potential design, construction, or operational issues.
This course defines BIM and discusses the benefits and challenges that are associated with the design and construction of building projects. The course provides useful information for Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) practitioners considering implementing BIM technology in their building projects.
