Fault statistics suggests that earth faults are the dominating fault type. Therefore, earth fault protection is of great importance in electrical networks. The type of earth fault protection used depends primarily on the type of earthing method. This course describes protection principles for solidly (effectively), reactance, high resistance and resonance grounded electrical systems.

This course is suitable for electrical engineers and technicians with a desire to understand the fundamentals of earth fault protection. Upon successful completion engineers will be able to address key earth fault protection concepts, terms and schemes.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Solidly earthed system fault protection
  • Restricted earth fault protection (REF)
  • Directional comparison schemes
  • Current reversal
  • Reactance earthed system fault protection
  • High resistance earthed system fault protection
  • Resonance earthed system fault protection

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 20 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
