This 5-hour course is the seventh in a series of courses on the design of electrical substations. The courses do not necessarily have to be taken in order and, for the most part, are stand-alone courses.

This course covers non-oil filled substation equipment that is used in substations.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Types of air switches
  • How air switches are rated
  • How surge arresters are classified
  • The margins of protection for arrestors
  • How to apply a metal oxide arrestor
  • The application of instrument transformers
  • Instrument transformer burden ratings
  • Types of instrument transformers
  • When combination instrument transformers are used
  • The application of coupling capacitors

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 30 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
