When analyzing corrosion damage, the corrosion engineer needs to consider both the nature of the attack and the extent of corrosion damage. Most corrosion problems can be reliably evaluated by choosing a suitable nondestructive testing method. Nondestructive testing methods are not only useful in this context, but they allow for objects or materials to be inspected and measured without damaging them.

This course explains the basics of metal corrosion, including its principal characteristics, the various methods of corrosion inspection, and nondestructive testing methods for measuring corrosion. It summarizes the most important inspection methods and their relative ability to detect corrosion defects. The course also provides comparative charts of NDT methods as an aid for selecting the most appropriate method for the given situation.

Specific Knowledge or Skill Obtained

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Different types of metal corrosion and their properties
  • NDT methods in the field of metal corrosion
  • Characterization of metal corrosion properties by NDT methods
  • NDT methods of defectology and inspection of metal corrosion
  • Metrology, dimensional analysis, and measurement of metal corrosion by NDT methods
  • Code standards, specifications, and procedures for NDT methods of metal corrosion
  • A correlation between NDT methods and the structure and properties of metals

Certificate of Completion

You will be able to immediately print a certificate of completion after passing a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 10 questions. PDH credits are not awarded until the course is completed and quiz is passed.
