Professional Development Hours (PDH) Requirements
Continuing education for licensed Professional Engineers in Tennessee

Here is a summary of the engineering continuing education requirements mandated by the Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners.

Hours Required

24 PDH biennially

Renewal Dates

Based upon date of initial licensure

Board Approval

The Board does not pre-approve providers or specific courses. Each engineer must determine whether an activity meets the Board’s requirements.

Approved Content

Technical, ethical, or managerial content relevant to the practice of engineering. At least 13 of the 24 PDH must address health, safety, and welfare issues and technical competency.

Approved Activities

Internet-based courses are specifically shown as acceptable by the Tennessee Board.

PDH Carryover

For renewal dates before January 1, 2023, a maximum of 12 PDH may be carried forward into the next renewal period. For renewals in 2023 and beyond, no carry-over hours will be permitted.
