Not Accepted Topic Areas:
1. Business Skills
2. Firm Management
3. Personal Development
The catalog on this website lists courses and webinars by Topic Areas. Due to Board restrictions on content, you should avoid earning your PDH in the Topic Areas listed above.
One PDH must be earned in the subject of Engineering Ethics.
Although Board Rule 9.2.3 limits hours earned using online self-study courses and other self-study continuing education to 25% of the required hours (7.5 PDH per renewal cycle), live, interactive webinars, such as those offered by NoonPi, can be used to earn PDH credits without limit. (Board Rule 9.2.3.1 clarifies that web-based offerings including webinars, video conferences, and online meetings led by an instructor that enables both the instructor and attendees to give, receive, and discuss information in real time is not restricted under Rule 9.2.3.)
Other non-restricted options include courses offered by professional or architectural societies, national technical societies and associations, government agencies, accredited universities and colleges, and courses offered by IACET-approved providers.
While the Board does not specifically approve courses or providers, they do advise that certain subjects are not acceptable for continuing education credits. Ineligible subject areas include: risk management; limiting the design professional’s liability; project management related to profitability and maximizing fees; marketing / public relations; insurance; laws related to arbitration, mediation, or liens unless related to safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of the public; real estate; real estate development; expanding a design professional’s business; basic AutoCAD; personal development; general office management; accounting / financial planning; succession planning; and zoning as it relates to increasing a developer or architect’s profitability.
